The other day I got a hammer frag from an individual. I put it in my tank and it never really opened up after I put it in . So I moved it and I noticed that it was dying and you could see the remaining coral like you do when they die. Now it looks like some sort of cotton material has formed over that top area. Does anyone know if it is completely dead or is that some sort of life coming back into it? There is definitely no Hammers left just a white cottonny like substance across the top. Sorry if this is a crazy question but I am just getting into Coral‘s and everything else I have is perfectly healthy and doing fine.

There was nothing on top for a few days then it appeared ( the cotton looking stuff). Here’s a picture. Funny Thing is that it was right beside a frog spawn frag and it’s fine.

Yup that’s a dead hammer. Same thing happened to mine after my RBTA stung a few heads. I’d say don’t get rid of it just yet though. It could sprout new life. As this blurry picture of mine shows. I have dozens of new little heads popping up on a few dead ones.

Cool I was going to give it some time to see what’s going to happen. Thanks
