It doesn't actually grow a new one. That one will split in two.

Yes it will split a new head. Means you're doing something right actually lol. Euphyllia corals are my favorite.

My heads have taken up to a a fouple months to split i think because it has to grow the skeleton base for the new heads

Growth all depends on the coral. I've had one hammer grow really fast and another grow slightly slower.
