I bought my hammer coral from my lfs about 8 ish months ago, it was in my nano tank but it would only open up like half way but it is now in my big tank for about three months and its never opened. Is there anything i can do or is there something wrong with it?

Got any pics? Is it a wall hammer or branching hammer? How old is the tank, any parameter swings, type of lighting, what kind of flow are you running, what type of live stock do you keep, any other corals nearby?

Its a branching hammer and the tank is 3 months old, the tank took a month to cycle so i put the hammer in after the cycle period. I haven't had any parameter swings, im currently running led black boxes running at about 40 % , i have a jeabo wave pump a power head on the back wall and a rfg for a return, i only have a clownfish and a damsel i got a few days ago and i there is no corals near it

Can you list your parameters? It's hard to say, pics might help. Could be to much flow, if it's a wall hammer they are harder to keep. Could be to much light. The tank is young and also could be starving.

Agree with all of the above. It took me some tinkering to get my hammers in the right spot. Higher flow will definitely make them more compact. I have three right next to each other and the one that gets the least flow spreads out the most
