Hammer not extending fully

Any idea why this hammer is not fully extended in some spots? You normally can’t see the purple area like in the photos below.
It’s almost like some of the hammer ends have shrunk in these spots.

Orange filters and white lights are always better for photography. Euphyllia are temperamental and should be given time to correct the problem. Steady parameters and nutrition are liked by most corals
