Just fed my tank... Hammer closed up tight... Has stringy stuff coming off the one head. This is a first... Too much food in the tank and ticked it off?

It is either coral poop or discharging zooxanthellea, the second is not good. How long have you had coral and what lighting are you using? Wattage and distance from light.

It's been months. Was fine right before the feeding. I'm sure it'll be ok... It's already started to open back up again. I'm running 120w LEDs... 10 inches off the water. All my coral are thriving as well as my RBTA.

How far is the hammer from the lights? RBTA are high light. Hammer are low to medium. The hammer should not be getting the same lighting as a RBTA. When a coral expels zooxanthellea it is generally because it us getting too much light. Watch the coral if it is looking sad or bleached it is in need of being moved.

My hammers have what look like "stringy things" coming out of them periodically, have for as long as I've had them. Thin shorter ones that come off I can only imagine is some kind of waste. Other times it is longer and thicker, usually at night, those are feelers they use for feeding. As long as it still has color and opens up it's fine.

It's on the bottom and RBTA is on the top. Lighting is fine. Been in same spot since day one and has grown a second head. I think it was just irritated by the food in the water column. It's looking fine this morning. Thanks.
