Hey, just got this hammer on Saturday. Noticed today that there is something on one side of one of the heads. Just wondering if t is splitting or something else..

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.

Looks like when it was being fragged part of the skeleton broke up towards the head and into the flesh. Anyone else?

Yeah, that definitely isn't what it looks like when a hammer splits. Typically you will see a bubble above the splitting head... it will look identical to someone blowing a bubble with chewing gum.

Got ya...what(if anything) can I do? Here it is from the other side..

I would keep an eye on it and monitor it every day. You'll probably find that it simply takes care of itself. If you notice it getting worse, you can take it out and superglue it real quick.... to fill that area.

I've never seen that "bubble gum." Do you have any other pictures of that.

That's not a picture of mine... but ironically mine is doing it on 2 heads right now. It was just easier to steal an image off of the internet than to take one of mine and upload it lol. If you simply Google "hammer coral splitting" you should get plenty of results.

Sounds good. I will keep an eye on it. It was still opened up today so I don't know that it's effecting it to much. Thanks again!

Woke up this morning and found it to be hanging on by a thread. So here we go with a 5:00am coral surgery this morning. This my first coral let alone my first coral surgery o_O.

We will see how he looks when I get home.

I've done it. Grab it with yours hands gently closing the crack, then apply a fine line of superglue (anything cyanoacytlate) and place it back into tank.

at that early in the morning, you're bound to see it closed up like that anyway. good job on the surgery!

Yeah, based on the small amount of flesh that was holding it together it would have been done for by the time I got home. Luckily I'm a morning person so I was with it that early to super glue a coral back together.
