My hammer was open for the first 5 days I brought it home now the 2 polyps are closed and one totally disappeared. But the rest of it looks great. Nothing has changed.... I hope it didn't get damaged when I was moving it ? But that was 8 or 9 days ago. This is new within the last 2 days. Worried about tissue damage, etc

Could be a pest in the tank eating it. Do you have peppermint shrimp in your tank?

No but did notice an aiptasia yesterday . and a bunch of asterina stars but I hear they are harmless (the stars). What else could it be?

The reason I say pest is the rest of the heads look normal, now it could have been damaged from moving.

Go hunting after lights out with a red light to see if you have a worm in there. May take a couple of nights to confirm if it's a worm or not.

I would monitor the coral and leave it alone for now. The next step would be to check all your parms to see if they are ok. You may have just had some damaged.

It was a type of worm. Found it on the bottom of the frag. Unfortunately it was quite damaged I hadn't realized the extent until I moved it :(

My thoughts would be, it doesn't like rubbing on the rock. That nook it's in is probably slowing the water flow around the back side. I've kept that same hammer and it can be a little testy.
