I’m a newbie and my 30 gallon nano tank is 3 months old today. I added a hammer coral 3 weeks ago on a flat rock about midway up the tank. It is approximately 19” from my Viparspectra 165 led light. I know it’s a cheap light but I didn’t want to pony up for a good quality light until I first found out if this was a hobby for me. But so far I like it very much. I have the white lights at 1% and the blue lights at 5%. Not having a PAR meter I’m just going by looks. When I first added the light it was at 100% and my fish wouldn’t come out of the shade so I backed it down. It still seems very bright. Take a look at this photo of the hammer coral and if you have any suggestions please let me know. By the way I moved the hammer to the bottom because I’m thinking the light may to too strong for it.

Water parameters taken from my LFS on 6/12/2022
PH 8.1
Alk 113 ppm I converted it to 6.32 DKH I hope that’s right
Calcium 424
Magnesium 1525
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 2
Phosphate 0
Salinity 1.025

The guy who took my parameters said everything looked good to him. My personal opinion is the alkalinity is low. I have started to dose with alkalinity part 1 from Fritz RPM 5ml every other day.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah your alkalinity is a bit low, aim for 8-9. Its hard to tell what is wrong with the hammer, since the parameters look to be in check. The best bet is to figure out the PAR readings where the hammer is. Do you have any other coral in the tank?
