Hana dkh

So I got the Hana dkh tester yesterday got home and did a test which read 9.6
Today I did another test and it read 10.6 so I done another test straight after which also came out at 10.6
I started with Red Sea blue bucket and have changed to tropic Marin pro reef salt which both have a dkh of around 8 I think
I don’t dose anything to the tank as I only have a few frags atm but this is why I got the Hanna checker to keep on top of dkh
Just wondering how the dkh can go up with out dosing or how my dkh is 10.6 when using the salts I have used

Concerning Hanna testers I will say you need to keep everything as consistent as possible.

Ie same exact amount of water in cuvette. The bottom arch of the meniscus should touch the top of the line. As well as placement of cuvette into the checker make sure its facing the same way each time. I keep the label facing forward.

Again consistency is absolutley key with those checkers.

There are some good videos on yt concerning keepi g Hanna checkers and your actions with them as consistent as possible.

That's all I got. If you're doing all that already then this post is way above my pay grade

Ye I don’t touch the vile i use syringe to fill have tissue when handling vile

I’m sure I’m using it the same follow instructions and today I did 2 test in a row and got exact same result each time

Sounds like you are definitley staying consistent then. I'll throw this thread back up to some more experienced reefers! Best of luck!

Tbf I don’t put the vile in the same way that’s something I can try I think it’s working fine as I did 2 test back to back and got exact same result 10.6dkh so maybe I did something wrong the first time

I was more shocked by the 10.6 as I’ve used rs blue and now tropic marine pro so was wondering how my dkh can be this high without dosing anything

Alkalinity varies naturally over a day (you can see it when people post their Trident graphs). You need to test at the same time-of-day to get consistent results.
