So I got the AquaMax HF-M hang-on refugium/filter/skimmer and I'm having trouble keeping the skimmer from overflowing. Right now it fills up in under a minute and is dumping bubbles back into my tank through the hose and out onto my carpet when it takes the lid off with the pressure of the bubbles. The tank has had water, sand, and rock for three weeks, but I put some Dr. Tim's one and only in last Thursday, and the cycle is now done. I only have a Skunk shrimp and a (very shy) damsel. What am I doing wrong or not doing that is causing me to empty the collection cup every 3 minutes?

I’m not familiar with the hang ons, but every time I set up a new system I have issues with my Red Sea skimmers being hyper active. It seems to take a while for it to calm down and balance. During this time I am able to open the drain line and just let it circulate back into the sump. I know this means I’m not pulling nutrients and sludge from the tank, but this is only in the first few weeks when my load is t very heavy.
Don’t know if you can (recycle) to keep from overflowing or not, but if you can, it should eventually settle so you can adjust to the foam mix you are looking for.
