So I installed my protein skimmer near the end of last week and I went to check today and I kinda notice it's not like crazy brown foaming in the collection cup. So it is making me think that it is not working properly. It's either there's not enough stuff to skim in my tank yet or it's not working I can't really tell...

It takes awhile for a new skimmer to break in.

And if it's a new (tank) setup it will take more time.

A new skimmer needs to build up a slime coat on the inside to dial in and stable out.

Just stay patient, and Welcome to Reef 2 Reef.

Yes,
new tank and new to the hobby. Thank you for the response. I am loving this forum, very helpful and friendly.

What skimmer do you have? Yes new skimmers take time to break in, ther are oils from manufacturing that need to break down. Here is mine, in sump, got lightly used so not brand new, gave it a vinager bath, tank is new no fish just sand and live rock. If you habe a good skimmer and it is working propeely you should start to pull something out after a week.

The cylinder is not foaming up and over into the collection cup. I do have foaming but it hasnt reached the top of the cylinder. The cylinder is starting to brown so I'm hoping it's just working in

Give it another few days and if the foam head is not cresting the cup rhen raise the water level in the skimmer a little. Give it a few days and replete until its skimming as you want.

how do I raise the water level in the skimmer

how do I raise the water level in the skimmer
the foam shoots to the top but then doesnt make it out of the cylinder. You think this is still being worked in or a water level issue
