Ok, I am looking at putting a 61" Aquatic Life Hybrid fixture over my tank. The issue is where my tank is has 16' ceilings. So hanging from the ceiling is out. I see they have brackets that can go on the back of the tank but I am not a fan of the look. I was thinking about putting a shelf over the tank and hanging it from that. Has anyone else done something like this? How far over the tank do you think it should extend, the full 24", 18"?

Thanks for any comments.

PS I am new to R2R, been on for about a week and I spend pretty much all my free time scouring the postings.

I would think that you need just enough to center the fixture over your tank so 18" would work of course 24" shelves would give you more room for "essential" reefing supplies on the shelf.

The shelf would just need to extend far enough out so that your fixture can center over the tank. However, you might think it looks better if the shelf was even with the front of your tank. Just depends on what might trigger your OCD genes! Another option is to just forego the shelf and just use two banner brackets on the back wall and hang the fixture to those (you could even make it into a floating canopy if you want to go that route, which is what I did)
