Hi all, fairly new to the hobby and I need some help hanging my LEDs on the wall from an arm or something similar. My fixture only weighs about 9lbs, so was just wondering what everyone has done to hang them.

Personally prefer ceiling kits, but you could either rig up a cheap U shaped frame out of PVC, wood etc and secure it to to the back of your stand, or use some L brackets from the wall. Many options.

I was looking at an old crt tv mount with the L shaped tube coming off the wall, but using it upside down. Just looking for suggestions and pics if I'd be so lucky lol

I'm not completely opposed to hanging it from the ceiling, but I doubt I'd find a stud exactly where I need it. Any suggestions?

This is where a 2x4 comes in handy. Mount 2x4 to the studs, then screw in eye bolts into the 2x4 wherever you want. Hang fixture from eye bolts. You can drywall the 2x4, stain it, paint it, place trim around it or leave as is.

Could not edit my previous post. But basically hang the fixture from the 2x4 or 2x6 that you secured to the studs. I have done this with 50lb pot racks.

go to the hardware store and just walk around looking for ideas. I find it really helps the DIY process!

Also, there are many types of anchors/hangers that you can use in the wall or the ceiling.

Thanks for the responses. Only reason I'm having a hard time finding an arm to hang off the wall is the light needs to hang 24" off the wall. Then my ceiling is vaulted, so it's gonna be fun haha

ill try to snap a pic later of the lights I just hung over a tank. uses some 3/4 conduit, a wall plate, some big butterfly anchors, and aircraft cable. the cable anchors in to a point higher than the light rail and acts as a cantilever/anchor. I have two razors on the pipe and one is about 32" off the wall.

That would be awesome! Thanks very much. I found an "L" bracket at Home Depot that would work, but it was only 20" and I need it to be about 24". Once I see one mounted I'm sure I'll be able to DIY something.

Here is my single mount.

If you like the TV mount idea, just start doing searches for mounting arms that will extend the 24" you need.
I've seen several in the Ecotech forum on reef central.

Ooooh i like this. Do you have instructions on how you built it? Or at least a parts list?

I used a 8' piece of 2" x 3/8" aluminum bar, a 2' piece of 1" x 1/8th" aluminum bar.
With two 45 degree bends 6" apart.
I got the idea from a build on reef central where the guy made his with the same materials, but made a long sweeping arc with the 2" bar.
Looked pretty ellegant. Pretty spiffy.
I didn't want to copy it completely, so my first attempt was just a 90 degree angle. Didn't look so great, so I tried the two 45 degree bends and I liked it.
The 2" bar is attached to the back of my stand with 2 lag bolts.
I picked up the aluminum locally for about $25.

Awsome! Thanks! Once i decide on a light system im gunna build this nice little stand

They guy I got my idea from said he used heat and the railings on his deck ( to hold one end ) as he made the bend.
A relative had a flat bar metal bended we used. But I can see using a vise, and heat, or as the other guy did, just railings and heat.
