ordered some of these yesterday. I would like to try and avoid having to pay the silly prices that they sell their own mounting products for.

does anyone here use the hydras, or even the sols or vegas? (assuming they use the same mounting kits). Does anyone here do/did their own DIY hanger/mount?

one thing that would really help me is knowing the size (thread size) of the hanger mounting screw/bolt that goes directly into the module when hanging it.

can anyone offer any advise or help with any of this?

please

I have the hydra 52s I just used a piece of angle iron to hang two of them with washers spacing the unit down to clear the fan and I think the thread is a 10 mm 32. It has been a while ago tho just used I bolts for the ends to hang them. U should love the lights! Good luck!

I'm curious how pics of your corals and lighting schedule explanation are gonna help me find the right materials and material sizes. lol.

I need explanations and advice about hanging and info directly related to my topic of questions.

Dude, did you not notice the thread is specifically on mounting these units and hanging them and the options I have? Seriously, you haven't been any help lol

I don't care about your corals, or your light schedule.

Take a look at Tslot aluminum....you can make a bracket out of that yourself.....I used the AI kit but may modify it so I can hang it horizontally over my tank and may use Tslot.

Check out 8020.net

I have the AI sols and the screw size is suppose to be different, so I can't help you there, but I have mine mounted on a simple angled aluminum frame I made [ I bought the angle stock from home depot ] and mounted it inside my canopy. You just need to build a rectangle large enough to handle however many units you have, and buy some hanging kits. I built my simple frame for about 15.00 and that included the stainless steel hardware. If you need a picture I could get you one, but I don't think it would help you.
