Sorry for the basic question but last thing I want is a light in the water. ( For the record, I feel the answer is hit a ceiling joist!)
I have a couple of reefbreeder photons I’d like to hang. To get them visually perfect, the mount would have to be an anchor through Sheetrock ceiling. I can hit the ceiling joists but they are not directly above the ends of the lights.

the reefbreeders 48” photon v2 weighs about 27-30 pounds. The 24” I will use with it weighs about 10-15 pounds. Those of you that hang lights, would you trust an anchor? Or 100% go for a joist? I guess I’m worried about the light being pulled away from where I want it over the tank if the joist is not directly above

Edit for another question. If I mount the two lights together… would one hanging cable on each end for a total of 2 work?

@mrpontiac80 you can comfortably use anchors as long as you pick the right ones. Couple of ideas for you

Thanks for the response. I decided to get eye lag bolts and I’m just going to place them exactly where I want them and use 2x4 between the joists. Over kill I’m sure but it should last forever and I’ll sleep better. I do love the anchors in the first link. I use them all the time to hang kitchen vent hoods at work. (I do hvac).

Use 3/8” toggle bolts right through the sheet rock and it’ll hold just fine!
