Hanna 713 - Mistake?

So I have the Hanna Checker 713.

But after reading a bit more it was brought to my attention that the H 736 is better and more accurate?

I guess when it comes down to it, my question is this - Did I make a mistake in getting the H 713 where as I should have gotten the H 736?

So my main worry, my P04 readings are not that accurate and very "ballpark" ? Or am I ok with the H 713 Low range version?

BRS has a good video where they checked both for accuracy. Basically the phosphate checker is less accurate especially at the low range. I try to maintain my tank at the .o2 ppm phosphate and with that checker I was always getting a reading of 0 whereas with the phosphorous checker I get the low range reading. Conversly if your phosphates are higher the ULR checker will not give accurate readings. One of my tanks I keep a little dirtier so I still use the phosphate checker on that one.

It depends what you are trying to grow. If you have a softy/LPS tank I think the low range is ok. If you are growing SPS then you would want the ULR. The ULR is more accurate at very low levels

However , If you have not used the kit yet then I would return it and get the ULR

Well ... previously I was not testing for P04. I fell into the group of "if I see algae growing I know my P04 needs controlled" ....BUT things changed when I ran too much GFO for a few months, stripped my tanbk to the point I had to dose Spectraside and Brightwell NeoPhos to get my P03 and P04 up.

So I purchased the H713 to test P04. I am not (maybe I should be) trying to get ultra accurate readings, I just want to be able to make sure my P04 is around 0.03 and that I can control that range thru feedings, my bi-weekly water changes, etc.

So would that one work then for what i am trying to do ...? OR should I not be "sloppy" looking for ballpark readings and just return it and get the H 736?

(also I will note, thru my non stop testing I have gotten things back where they should be, and my P03 is steady at 10-12, and my P04 is steady at 0.03. )

...Oh yah, and I do prefer and have plentry of sps frags and small colonies

I would get the ULR if you are trying to keep your Po4 that low. I was using the LR and it was reading 0. I had some algae issues and switched to the ULR and the Po4 was actually 0.8

Understood. Guess I have to return this one and get the other one ... man o man this hobby. .... hahaha...

So I guess, if I am understanding this correctly, my 0.04 reading that I got this morning, may ACTUALLY be higher - above the reccomended # that it should be. (although I am not chasing #'s, chasing CONSISTENCY and STABILITY)

It could also be lower. At those levels it is pushing the resolution limits of the LR.

It was lower! It was previously (with the old hanna checker -- the 713) showing 3 to 4 consistently .. waited a few days for my new Hanna checker to get here (just got here today!) and just tested it and my p04 is registering 0.00918! ...so needless to say, time to start dosing p04!

WELL WORTH IT... the 736 phosphorus tester is WAAAYYY better

Hmm. I did not think it could resolve values to that much accuracy. Did you do the calculation to convert it to PPM correctly? I have an apex so it does the conversion for me.

That # I posted, was just what my calculator gave me ... I basically took the # that the hanna checker gave me (3) and did the following (reading) x 3.066 then divided that # by 1000 to give me a ppm reading. That number, again what my calc gave me, was 0.00918 ----> so basically 0.00
