I wasn’t sure where to post this question but I’ll do it here. I was doing some alk tests this morning and noticed debris floating in the test vial after adding the reagent. Figured it was out of date reagent, checked the expiration date, 9/20/20. Anyone else have this happen? Is the reagent trash? Are the tests still reliable with chunks floating in the vial?

Maybe it's the dry parts of the reagent that get crusty around the edges of the bottle? Following along as I use the same test kit.

The test is not accurate with debris in the vial. It may effect the light passage. I've had this happen when I didn't clean the syringe out after usage.

I do clean the syringe tip by spraying with rodi water after use. I did one test with my old reagent, it read 7.8. I then opened a new bottle of reagent, performed another test and it read 8.0

I see little chunks of debris floating in every bottle of reagent i have ever purchased... up to maybe 20 bottles. Ive found that as long as i do not shake the bottle before i use it the debris will stay at the bottom and out of the vials.

I was wondering whether or not the bottle should be shaken........thought maybe a good shake would get rid of the debris, no go

That is within the noted tolerance which is +/- .4 I believe. I have noticed pretty wide differences between bottles of alk reagents with different lot numbers. Just my experience....
