does anyone trust the test results from the calcium checker

i did 2 tests using the same water samples
first test i got 577
second test i got 433
a little confused here on what to do

I've heard so many mixed reviews that I'm weary to pull the trigger on getting one. It will be a great tool once all the bugs are worked out.

Nope, used mine twice and it's sat in the box since. Waste of $ IMO.

I really like mine. I've tested the same water sample twice and always seem to get very accurate readings. The only thing you have to do is make sure you are very consistent and accurate with your water levels since you are sampling such a small volumn of tank water.

It depends how may drops of tank water is added. 2 or 3. may alter the test. Consistency is key.

I got a 1/2ml syringe that's graduated by 10th's, and it's much easier to get that .1ml of tank water you need for the test.

how many drops in .1ml are you getting,this may be a bit more accurate

Are you using the pointy tip that comes with the syringe?

yes im using the tip as i find it more accurate
acctually ive used with and without and still inaccurate results

Make sure you get allll the powder out. I creased the directions and I put all the powder on it, tap the packet to make sure all of it is out. The. You can use the creased directions to kind of funnel it in the vial.

Try using distilled water instead of RODI, and getting a diabetic syringe for the actual tank water, and also make sure the cuvette's water line is correct, the bottom of the curve in the water should touch the line. (all hanna checkers should be done this way). after you take all these steps you might have better accuracy.

Why distiller, my understanding is the water needs to be o tds. Rodi

I have had issues with it as will with the blinking 600. I got some distilled from the store (buy with caution as some of the drinking waters have calcium products in them) but have yet to try it again.

Read to use lab grade distilled for best results, or RODI right out of the RO line, also a clean tube is a must.

Just going to follow along from here, as my experience has been less than satisfactory.

Similiar issues with the alk checker but if I multiply by 0.070 I get a better conversion which is closer to my actual dkh.

I've had good luck with their alk reader working consistently well, not exactly sure how it compares to other alk kits but it's very consistent, even when I open up a new bottle of reagent.

i did 4 tests back to back with mine and it was dead on all 4 times..i love my calcium test kit...i think some people have trouble with the instructions...it must b followed to a T

I used mine for the first time yesterday 390 it read, I'll check next week and see if it changes

Agreed - My biggest issue in the beginning was the water line in the tube. As Dowtish stated "make sure the cuvette's water line is correct, the bottom of the curve in the water should touch the line" This solved my issue and now my results match API every time. I have also used both RODI and Distilled and results were the same.
