I check alkalinity using the Hanna checker, which I've been using for a long time now. I figured it was time to calibrate it, so I bought the calibration kit. The kit says that the acceptable range is 4.7-5.3 at 25C. My calibration returned 4.7, but the ambient temperature in the room was probably more like 21-22C. So does this mean that the result would have been higher at 25C, or lower? (In which case it would be out of range)

You are fine. If you doubt it just run the Hanna “calibration” test again. They are reusable, over and over (except the phosphate and phosphorus kit). I check my calibration every other month to make sure my checker is accurate. Probably overkill but I have too much invested in my tank to leave things to chance.

It's actually not a calibration kit, but rather a validation kit.

If your reader reads somewhere between the points listed on the paper that comes with the kit, it's reading just fine.

Temp has no bearing on alkalinity as far as I know? @Randy Holmes-Farley

Immerse the validation vial in a prewarmed bath to the desired temperature and repeat the test?

I like the Alk green color ok, but the phosphorus blue is very pretty when sample results are super high.
