Hey guys, I bought a new Hanna Iodine Checker and for some reason, my results keep popping up as 0.0ppm. I even added liquid Iodine to the vile to see if the device would detect it. Still, it came up as 0.0ppm. Any ideas on how to get this thing calibrated correctly?

thanks!

Should be zero. There is no I2 in seawater, which is what this device detects.

Wrong form of iodine, and wrong sensitivity, since it cannot detect natural levels even if the iodine were present as I2 (or other highly oxidizing species).

Why would freshwater ever need Iodidie or Iodine? I am lost.

Used for disinfection in swimming pools, hot tubs, wastewater, etc.

Hanna states this on their web site:

The HI718 Checker® HC (Handheld Colorimeter) provides a simple, accurate and cost effective way to measure iodine. Introduced as an alternative to chlorine, iodine as a sanitizer decreases eye irritation in pools and saps and provides a more stable level of disinfection in adverse conditions. However, due to its toxic and corrosive properties, iodine is strictly monitored. Designed as a more accurate alternative to chemical test kits, the HI718 provides quick, accurate results in a few easy steps.
