i have the alkalinity checker and it is great! i use the red sea pro kit for my calcium and mag. i have also compared the red sea alkalinity titration kit with the hanna checker to make sure i could trust it and i was within a 2 ppm range when testing the same water. now it is my go to alk test!

The calcium one seems a little scary on paper but the first time you do it it's not bad at all the alkalinity is even easier The alkalinity one is as simple as filling up the vile adding 1 mL of solution tossing and turning five times and stick it in and get your number great product it's going to make my life a lot easier lol[emoji2]

The great part is you're not fighting looking at a color chart you get a exact number like the first time I used calcium my tank read 423

the alk checker is extremely easy to use. you fill the vial zero the checker then add the reagent invert it five times like junkie said and put it back in the checker. the only thing is that you need to keep the vial clean of dust or anything that could affect the light passing through the vial and changing the reading. overall its stupid easy!

The phosphate one is a little trickier. Unless they've changed it, the reagent is in powder form in individual packets and a little tricky to get completely out. Also, you need to set up beforehand, meaning open the packet and have it ready to pour, before you start the test. You have to mix the powder for two minutes before you put it in the Checker and if you don't start right away, there's a chance the Checker will time out and turn off before you're done. Then you have to start over. As long as you're aware of this and work quickly, it's a great test too.

My liquid tests are not much harder. Sounds like alot of money for a few less drops. I use reef pro tests. The mag is a bit much. But alk and calcium are super easy. No matching colors. Drip until color changes from pink to blue. Much easier than color match. they need an easier one for nitrates

Salifert mg is much easier IMO. I changed from Red Sea and I'm really happy.

They're actually not that much compared to test kit prices that's the whole reason why this time I went with these I use a Red Sea for my magnesium which I also like a lot but that was almost the same price as a Hanna checker

Now For phosphate on a salifert test it is just a waste of a time trying to get a accurate reading when you're looking at numbers like 0.5 or less it is almost impossible to me their just dust collectors with the Hanna checker I can actually get a number instead of looking at the color and trying to guesstimate what it is

Hanna alk and ULR phosphorous are what I use. I use Salifert for nitrate, Mg, Ca. Reviews are not as good for their Ca units.

I recommend you test 3-4 times with your calcium tester. Hanna's calcium checker is remarkably wild. We have a guy in our reef club that called Hanna asking why he was seeing 50 point swings in-between tests. They sent him out a .5ml syringe to use instead of the 1ml and he found the test to become much more repeatable.

I tested two times and both were really close one came up for 421 and the second was 423 so far it's showing pretty close numbers next week I'll do the same thing and see what happens[emoji2]

I wonder if his test tube was dirty sometimes if you don't wipe the fingerprints off I've heard you can have that happen

Thanks reefjunkie53!! It's great to see reviews on the many debatable products in the saltwater industry. I couldn't decide on wether I should buy a Hanna checker or not. I look forward to hearing your extended review so please keep us posted! Thanks!!!
