I heard it was garbage and then recalled... has it been improved upon?

Following.

I never bought one but supposedly it was an issue with the reagents that they fixed.

I am in the same boat. I want one but I do not want to be a guinea pig for their beta level products. I will wait until they have a proven track record.

I was just mulling over picking one up since I pretty much have the full hanna lin3, but read similarly that it read really high. Also read that it was an issue using liquid reagents and that they started using powder so it would not expire as quickly.

Haven't heard enough definitively that I pulled the trigger yet, so I'm still using the time consuming titration test I've used for years

The new ones work fine. They changed 1 of the reagents to powder. It now closely matches my salifert and red sea test kits... before the recall it was way higher and inconsistent.
I just broke down and got one ordered. Gonna be happy to not have to spend all that time doing titrations.

I have a magnesium kit for Salifert, Red Sea and Aquaforest. They all read different (like a lot different). I did a icp test and Aquaforest was the only one close. I want to try one of the Hannas but you see where im getting at.

I love the hanna ulr phos, alk, and hr nitrate...but I can do calcium and mag titration faster than my ulr or hr can give me those readings.

I multitask while those are running. Start those first and grab the results after I finish alk and the like

Yep ... start Nitrate HR ... then start Phosphate ULR ... then do Alk and check salinity and start cleaning up ... then Nitrate/Phosphate are about done.

*too afraid of reviews on Hanna Calcium and Magnesium checkers to buy either (yet)

Yes... I have received my replacement about a month ago.. And all LFS\ online retailers should have replaced mag testers now sent from Hanna.

You'll know if you have an original "old" Recalled mag test kit if both solution A & B are both liquid..

The new updated rolled out kits have powder for B solution.

Works like a charm :)

Yea it does, i got my replacement in the mail about a week ago or so and its definitely accurate not with my saltifer and redsea test kits

I just got the newer version from BRS, haven’t tested it yet.

Magnesium testing is often fraught with error, and, IMO, if you are using a method for alk and calcium that has an appropriate level of magnesium associated with it, measuring and acting on a wrong test result may be worse than not measuring at all. Fortunately, a wide range of magnesium seems fine and it is very slow to deplete.

I tried my first test with the new version this morning. It seemed to work well. I think precision is the key to get as close to accurate results as possible. The instructions are very clear on exactly 4ML of reagent and 5ML of sample. The instructions also state that if a drop is left in the syringe, to cycle the syringe to get that drop in to the vial. This tells me that this is a sensitive test, that probably will get close to a result but never really accurate, and patience is the key. My Hanna test showed 35PPM higher than my Trident (1338).

that sounds accurate enough lol
