I was trying to test my phosphates this morning with my ULR hanna checker. when i placed the powder in the test vial. i noticed some of the powder turning into a brownish rust color. it wasn't all of the powder though, like just a small cluster or chunk of it. Is this normal or do i have a bad batch?

Not normal. The powder should stay colorless and dissolve pretty quickly.

Did you repeat the test to see if it happened again? The sample or test vial might have been contaminated.

It happened two out of the last three times. The first 10ish times had no problems.

I am at a loss to explain it. You might try contacting Hanna customer service.
