Hanna phosphate checker SUCKS

Mine worked well for 6 months then went wacky. When I emailed Hanna they replied with a generic are you sure your testing right email. Fast forward to now and I had 2 ICP tests done showing considerably different readings. I emailed Hanna to tell them that and they said I'm out of the 1 yr warranty so basically too bad. I explained to them I told them it wasn't working well with in the warranty period but they didn't care.

Now I don't know what to do. I'm stuck with a faulty tester and Id hate to give a company that doesn't seem to care more money to buy a new one. Also I don't see any other hobby grade phosphate kits on the market that seem accurate.

So yes, I agree. Hanna SUCKS
The Red Sea Phosphate pro is equally as accurate, but is painful to use.

Compared to my last 2 triton ICP the RS was closer than the Hanna.

Both were within their stated accuracy.

I use the RS as my backup/sanity checker

Mine was working fine until last week with results all over the place. Even though I rinse with RO after every test I wiped inside the cuvette and found this. Working fine again

Wipe the vials and also flick them for bubbles. Reagents need to be the correct lot
I made sure to do all of that and always rinse with pure RO.

6 months it was spot on then BOOM! I also tried getting new vials and reagant.

If you're using the same cuvette for C1 and C2 it should not matter too much.

Having said that, I clean mine out with a baby bottle brush or tissue after each use.

I have also found that if the C.1 calibration takes more than 3 or 4 flashes the tube is dirty and your control will be off thus your result will be off. This has been true for all the Hanna tests. Usually it's exterior of curvette isn't pristinely clean like others have mentioned.

The Alk tester does that every 30 tests - I guess to do a full zero point recalibration

I got the Hanna ULR Phosphate test kit awhile back ,and every time I test it gives me an error or an insanely high number. I just tested 3 times and the tests came out to be .25, .54, and .45. I gave up on the test awhile ago, and I just bring a sample of my water for my LFS to test. It always comes back at 0 or I have a little bit of phosphate. My LFS uses the same phosphate checker, but results are completely different. I’ve gone through 2 things of reagent with mine and still get inconsistent results. Could I have gotten a faulty checker? I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with their Phosphate ULR? I thought these were supposed to be the best!
My Hanna ULR phosphate checker has always been spot on. Are you rinsing out your vials and cuvettes with RO/DI water after every use? I was rinsing out the ones for my alk and calcium checker with tap water and getting inconsistent readings. This could make a significant difference. You can also contact Hanna directly to see if the lot of reagent has been recalled or if there have been complaints.

Was just going to post this same exact thing!

Over the years of using the hanna checkers, I have found that if you put the cuvette in the checker and press the button(C1 to C2), and the blinking dashes is more then 3 or 4, the cuvette is dirty.

As to the poster who says they do this every 30 tests, not my experience. If my checker blinks more then 3 or 4 times, I clean the cuvette again, and it's back to normal.

Mine is pretty old (purchased around 2016), but it does the recal after 30 tests. It may I suppose do an additional one if the cuvette is dirty, but it's never done that for me.

After the recal it's good for another 29 tests :)

Probably the firmware has changed since then.

Mine is pretty old too......

Just had to go look up my BRS order from when I ordered it.... May 2016 as well.

I mark my reagent bottles so I only use the stated 25 tests, so I know when I'm at 29 or 30 tests.

Not saying your wrong, just never seen what your seeing with mine.
