Hi guys

When is the ulr better than the lr ?

Like <.1 ulr
+.>1 lr

Thing is I’ve been consistent with po4 for a few weeks then this

Sunday .06 lr
Tuesday.05 lr
Thursday .02 ( added 1mg more of mysis) switched to ulr
Friday .03 ulr
Saturday.12 ulr ( checked 3 times)
Today .24 ulr and .05 lr

2 readings that seem off

The ulr is more accurate than the Lr. The Lr has a margin of error of +\- .04 ppm, the ulr has a margin of error of +\- .02 ppm. I have seen weird results from the ulr sometimes and retested when that happened.

I feel like sometimes the test gives you high reading because of something that may be in the water or a smudge on the vial. I've tested 3 times in a row this week one day: 0.24, .19 and then .09

Salifert confirms +.03

I nearly went in messing when I got that .12 yesterday, ceased feeding then saw .24 I though this can’t be right then lr .05 which unless there’s something going on I don’t know about ….

Nah I’m super careful with my procedure
But have done multiple tests on same sample and got 3 different readings

Hmm. Not sure other than keeping cuvettes clean, making sure to not mix up reagents (they are different), and trying a fresh battery.

Only time I got a wonky reading on my ULR was when I shook the vial really aggressively before the reading. I registered way higher than actual. I retested shaking gently (as I believe the directions say to) and registered a normal reading.

Ok all good suggestions but
Cuvetts get rinsed after test and rinsed in tank water before

Sometimes I do shake both nitrate and phosphate at the same time but with 5-10 nitrates I know which is which

Both 2-3 months old , new battery at that time

I let the sample stand for 1 minute then gently invert the bottle a few time to clear any potential bubbles

Never dropped and powder as I use the “ Hanna no spill”
I even scrape the packet for particles but according to Hanna losing a touch of regent won’t affect f the result

I did 5 tests

3 on ulr , .23,.24 and .12
I did 2 on lr and .05 ( which is what I expected)
And .02

I beg you all pick the one you want haha

As I said I confirmed with Salifert it’s above .03 and no higher than .1

Is this while the counter is counting down for three minutes?

Why would they sell a lesseer accurate tester? Surely ..02 is a big enough difference cos you could get a .02 reading which could be 0 or ,04

Don’t touch the counter under analysis mate
Huh? When the checker says “C2”, put in the powder, shake for two minutes, then hold the button until the counter starts. Clear smudges off cuvette, then place back into checker. Check result after the three minute countdown is done.

The Lr one came out first. They made a ulr for those who want a tighter control. There is also a ppb tester that is even more accurate, but gives phosphorus, not phosphate reading.

Mate I got the lr when I first came out 10-15 years ago idk when

Thing is , you get after that amount of time a procedure that doesn’t change so neither should your expected change
