Hanna phosphorus 3 min timer issue... found a workaround.

Just rezero with a second vial full of water and push the button again. The color is stable for a good 15 min. I measured it on a photometer. No worries. In fact waiting a little bit might be good. It stabilizes. You could add the packet and wait 5-6 min zero the unit with second vial and just push the button to take measurement without the timer. Result will be the same.

resurrecting an old thread... i noticed people are saying there is a 3 minute "timeout" between zeroing C1 (tank water) and then adding C2 (tank water plus reagant). I tested this by turning on my hanna checker, put in vial 1, pressed the test button, wait for it to to tell me to add C2 which is when i start the timer immediately. My unit stays on for ~7 mins before it shuts off by itself. Is this right? I have the ULR check (HI774).

I've had a good chuckle! You guys are talking about 2 different checkers: ULR Phosphorus(HI-736) & ULR Phosphate(HI-774). They each have different shutoff timing intervals.

hah! thanks for the clarification. I googled timer for the HI-774 so it looks like it really is on a 7min timer. so many hanna phosphate threads on here that i got them mixed up. at least now i don't have to rush when mixing the reagent.

I've never had this problem. It doesn't time out on me

Hello, jarviz

This thread was started before your ULR ppm checker came out, so yours will not time you out as fast as the ppb checker does.

But just use one vail to do all the steps. All vails can have a difference in hues when zeroing out for calibration.

This saves a little time and insures all of the reagent gets into the cuvette.

wouldn't the wood scratch or smudge the cuvette over time? i thought the cuvettes had to be in near perfect condition for accurate readings.

I watch that closely and have not found the wood to scratch the cuvettes.

Where exactly does the light go thru the cuvette / where is the receptor located ? Bottom, middle, top ?

I'm using Hanna phosphorus HI736 ULR...
i found a way to not mix the reagent in a hurry to test it within that stupid 3 min or so time limit.

I use 2 of their glass tubes. I Miix reagent in one with sw. Shake it well for 4 min. Let sit.

I use another tube for the C1 test to calibrate(?)sw.... then i pour out sw and pour in the previous mixed reagent water. And press C2 Wait 3 min till timer goes away.

Then read the phosphorus no....

Is this method ok?

I think it should be since only the * same* one of the 2 tubes goes into the unit both the times(sw, reagent salt water) .

Btw today's test was P ppb 9=almost. 03ppm.

Thanks.....

Pls advice....
Yes, this will work.
