I was performing a calcium test with my Hanna checker when I realized I added tank water instead of RO water to the vial (1st step). the vial already contained 1ml on reagent A. Without thinking about it, I tossed the contents of the vial back into the tank including the 1ml of reagent A.

I have a 90 gallon SPS heavy tank. I realize this is not much that I added. I am still concerned about what could happen.

I would assume 1ml in a 90gal tank should have no side effects it would be so diluted I doubt yourll have issues.

I was wondering that too but then I saw that it was a Ca test.
Not a clue what this is, but I know of a few that may know;

If this is the right stuff it sais;

“6.2. Environmental precautions
The product must not penetrate into the sewer system or come into contact with surface water or ground water.”

I assume that must be for massive amounts, or does it?

Why do you put your testing water back into your tank? Is that something you normally do?
It was a totally stupid mistake I made.

Thanks for everyones response. Not sure what is in calcium reagent A but I’ll monitor my fish and corals carefully for a while and hope there isn’t any negative effects.

Right. I'm sure we all treat our spent reagents as a biohazard...

The method used by the Hanna involves calcium reacting with zinc bound to EGTA (or perhaps a similar chelator). The calcium is bound and zinc pops off and binds to a colored dye that changes color.

I don’t expect any of these components are a big deal once highly diluted in an aquarium.

I wouldn't worry about it. Then again, I usually play pretty fast and loose with the rules.
