I’m starting up a new tank and I bought a Hanna Salinity tester. I didn’t trust the readings so I compared it to my refractometer. They where completely different. One was reading 32ppt and the other at 40ppt. I took a sample to my local fish store and there reading was spot on with one of mine. Which one would you guess was right?

By the way, about the accuracy those cheap Amazon refractometers. I ended up with 2 of them and a friend bought a $120 refractometer. We tested them and they were all spot on with each other.

The refractometer I bought was BRS led version. The calibration solution I use was from Amazon

When do we find out? Lol
The Hanna Salinity tester was the winner. I don’t know if I have a bad bottle of calibration for the refractometer. My local fish store told me to calibrate it with distilled water and I will let you know what it read.

I was shocked I didn’t think the refractometer would be wrong.
