I got today the new hanna saltwater magnesium colorimeter. I did a test and I got 1430 ppm. After, I did another test with salifert magnesium, and I got 1380 ppm. My Trident shows 1375 ppm. If I considering the 5% accuracy the values are close to other test equipment. Let me know about your experience with this new equipment. I will update a video on our instagram page soon.
The test was easy, just need to be carefully when you get 1 ml from the reagent B.

Might have to pick one up myself. They seem to be fairly accurate(hey it's mag, as long as I'm above 1200 it's good), and easy to use. I only test MAG like once a month.

I hate titration tests! Although they are accurate(assuming you can see the end point color), they are just a huge PITA to use.
 
The Hanna isn’t giving me consistent results. First test was flashing 1800 which means results are out of range. Second test indicated 1695. Aqua forest testing at 1470.

Yeah me too. Got 1700 first test and 1760 second. Red sea gives ~1400.

Same 1800 first didn't bother to second test. Something wrong with the unit??

I would double check you have 1ml of the reagent in the syringe tip. I know for me using it I've had it on more than a few occasions where it hasn't taken up the full 1ml because the tips are just crappy and loose fitting. They need to change it really.
 
I just tested again and I got 1490 ppm. On Trident I have 1373 ppm. Little high in my opinion.

So should I not use the tips for those surranges. I hate those things. Can I just use the syringe and draw 1mil instead?

I've never used the tips on my Hanna ALK. The volume is the same, the air that is in the syringe will change though as you wont have the big bubble you'd get with the tip

Do me a favor and redo a test. When Reagent A draws air, you get less of Reagent A in the test pushing the numbers high. Try running a test using the tip but using 5 ml of Reagent A. This will allow for error when drawing up Reagent A. Please let me know how this works for you. I think they created the instructions of 4 ml of A based on lab grade equipment, not regular guys doing the test at home, with plastic tips that suck in air and with all the errors we create. Try 5 ml of Reagent A and let me know how it goes for you.

I was getting 1800. then I did the test without the tips and matched my icp. interesting. will try your method later too

HI, I tried 5ml of reagent A and my reading was 1390ppm compared to my icp 1625ppm. I also did 4ml of reagent A without any tips and came around 1600ppm. So how much ml of reagent A to use. Assuming what the paper shows rathen then 5ml suggested?
