Hello friend,
Today I buy the ulr hanna 736 ,after converting to ppm I get 0.055 ppm
is that ok for reef mix tank ? What is consider good range for phosphate ?
I’m little confused with this test 0.055 is equal to 0.55 ?
Thank you

0.055 ppm phosphate is fine for a tank. It is not the same as .55ppm phosphate and that would be very high.

To go from ppb phosphorous to ppm phosphate just take your reading in ppb multiply by 3.066 to get ppb of phosphate then divide by 1000 to get ppm of phosphate (the commonly used measurement).

I think a common recommended range is 0.02 - 0.1 ppm phosphate.

0.055 is not equal to 0.55

There is a chart you can use to convert but i just simplify the math and x3 / 1000.

Thank you very much
So as long I’m not getting over 0.1 I’m fine

You’re fine! I like to keep it a bit lower around 0.03 however that being said, if your tank looks to be thriving then don’t chase numbers!

Stay on top of your phosphorus testing though, it’s a neat and easy wee checker you have there!

What is your water change schedule? :)

I’m changing water every two weeks but Im fighting now with gha.
Thank you

Thats not bad at all! :) Is it a fairly new tank? Do you have any livestock that grace on algae such as tanks, sea hares etc?
The tank is six months old ,I started with dry rock without any clean crew
All my coral look amazing but I’m not able to get rid from GHA
All my water parameter is fine

Sounds like you’re experiencing ‘the ugly stage’.. :) Be patient, the tank is still not mature- you will benefit from reducing your photo period (the time the light is on) during the day as well as feeding a bit less.

If you do not have a sea hare in there already, get yourself one of those. It will sort you out :)

If you want to reduce your phosphates even more, you can try your luck with carbon dosing. I have been using Red Sea NOPOX a couple of times, it does work but remember that is not a permanent solution.

You can stick in a bag of GFO as well to reduce phosphate.

Just remember; your filtration should ultimately be tailored to the amount of nutrients you add to the tank! :) Elevated elements such as nitrate and phosphate doesn’t just happen ;)

Best of luck!!
