Hannah checker salinity inaccuracies

I was taking my salinity on my two tanks it took at 1.025 but in reality after calibration it was 1.020 anyone have had this problem? I'm thinking about picking up a hydrometer as a backup to verify the salinity.

I believe any salinity checker can go inaccurate over time, and is supposed to be regularly calibrated for that reason.

I'm confused. How do you know what the "reality" salinity is?

Are you just saying the calibration was off before you calibrated it? That would be why you calibrate it (or at least check it).

Also, some folks assume that a new device of any type will arrive calibrated. That is rarely true (perhaps only by accident). pH meters, refractometers, conductivity meters, etc. never assume they are calibrated right out of the packaging.
