I was wondering why does hanna produce two different alk testers.one reads in ppm and the other reads in dkh.the ppm still needs to be converted to dkh if i'm not mistaken.why would one choose to buy the ppm over the dkh model?am I missing something?

PPM doesn't need to be converted into dKH - some people prefer to have the reading in PPM. Both use the same method for testing; it's just the resulting unit of measure that's different.
that's what I thought.seems everyone talks in dkh not ppm when referring to alk.doesn't ppm give a more accurate reading?

True; most of the time Alk is given in terms of dKH as it's an easier number to consume (and perhaps more scientifically correct - though I'm not sure about that part).

Neither is really more or less accurate - they both use the same method of measurement, so they are both equally accurate in terms of raw number captured. They also (as a result of being the same method) both have a +/-5% accuracy - which is more than any rounding that may happen during the calculation process.

The ppm testers have around for years and all Hanna offered. It has only been about a year since Hanna started offering the dkh models. My guess is they will eventually stop selling the ppm models.

The dkh meter has marine printed on it aimed at marine aquarists. You have to remember not all meters are used by just marine aquarists and the PPM one is aimed at other users. Hanna brought out the dkh one in response to many marine aquarists wanting a dkh meter.
