So after about two weeks of shopping, toying with the idea and looking around, watching youtube, reading others experiences and such Im still simply cant make up my mind (nor can my GF since its 'her' tank) which is better for us.
Currently we have a biocube 14 which this new tank will be replacing and once cycled will get the livestock from.
So from a cost perspective, they look like they will cost with in $50 of each other with all things said and done. (nano from the LFS, the 45 from drf&s online)
The Nano comes with the things that we would have to purchase separately for the 45. Both come with a stand. Both come with return pumps. the 45 would require the purchase of a light (thinking ocean revive since two of them are working well on the 72 in my signature) , a heater, and a power head (which we have a spare Xstream by Siece but that may be too much for this the 45.
My instincts scream go with the more water for less problems. The biocube has the occasional issue but Ive keep it running for the most part smoothly now for 7months. BUT....
The 45 is Rimless. And in the room it would be in, when the biocube's lid was open while I was changing out the lights, (was open for 5 hours, had to run to the store for a different bulb had got the wrong size, it runs PCs) and the temp dropped in that time from 79 to 71. Lucky the livestock seemed unaffected. I keep the house at 68 and there is a window unit in that room. I cant turn the temp of said unit up because it cools that room, as well as the attached bath, sadly that side of the house isnt very well insulated anything set above 70 and the room becomes way to hot.
I worry that there with a rimless there could be an issue with the stability of the temp...
But personally I feel that the water quality and the prams outside the temp would be easier to maintain stability.
If your wondering, we want something bigger for that room, and we are setting the biocube up at a family members house.
So which one should we choose? We cant make a decision so we thought we would ask the community we love and trust! Advice or your experiences would be greatly helpful!
