Hey gang,

Been batteling some GHA the last few months. With some good husbandtry I've managed to knock it down a bit. However, noticed this hard green algae onna few rocks. Before I scrape it with a toothbrush or something wanted to get some opinions.

There are certainly more experienced reefers on here than me, but my tank had the same issue. I contacted Reef Cleaners and they said that a lot of it was green coraline algae. If it bothers you, they said nerite and cerith snails would eat it!

Agree coralline algae. It’s one of the first to show up and I would not remove it either. Do you have any snails or rock with other colors of coralline like purples and pinks? if you have green growing I bet the other colors you have will start showing up soon.

Edit: looking at your pics I already see the pink starting on back glass too. So that’s great sign.

I agree that it’s green coralline. I have it too and I just let it spread and take over my rocks. I like it better than clean white rocks anyway. I don’t know what you can do to really stop it. My approach was to just let it happen and then encourage purple coralline to grow over it to replace it.

If it is hard calcareous growth then yeah, coralline.

How old is this system? Still looks young. I like your corals, but where are the fishies?

They are there. Have 2 clowns, a goby and royal gamma. Thank you!! My tank is about 8 months old.
