On one of my hermit crabs shell I noticed a red curling tube. It looks like there could be a little black head of some sort protruding from the tube. I have tried to get it with tweezers but never had any luck. The red tube is hard but thin and brittle, like a very thin shell. I broke it with a pair of tweezers a few weeks ago but now it has grown back fully like nothing ever happened!

Any clue on what this is??

Vermetid snail, pest and reproduce quick. I'd pull it off the shell to kill it.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Just pulling it off with tweezers will do the trick? I tried that about a month ago and it came back!

Crush it with pliers and cover it with CA glue or epoxy.

Just glue it up, anything on the shell will not hurt hermits, glue it, scrub it, it will not harm hermits inside

Take a pliers and snap this off at the base and clear away any leftover remnants by scraping it away with a Paring knife

Is it ok for the hermit to be out of the water while I do this?
Yes and forgot to say- Do this is a bowl of tank water

I have absolutely no problem with vermatid snails. Poor guys get a bad wrap and rarely (if ever) do any actual harm. They could agrivate a close by coral, but even then usually don't. They are just part of a diverse ecosystem, same with spirobids , bristles, etc.

If they get out of control in your system (like anything else... I assume you have other issues).
