My husband purchased a 125 gallon all glass tank that was previously used as a turtle tank. He did this sight unseen as he drives a truck and was on the road at the time. The man assured him it was in great shape and would deliver. (It was supposed to be a birthday surprise for me). Anyway, it had many scratches but the worst problem was the hard water line since it was kept at 1/3rd the depth of the tank. I can't remove it to save my life! Any suggestions? I tried vinegar concoctions, lemon, razor blades and it just won't come off :(

Thanks :)

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Does the line show up when the tank is full of water?

Maybe try some muratic acid? I wonder if it would harm the silicone?

Thank you :) Nothing helped, I tried virtually every thing out there. The tank bowed and would not hold a strong seal so I replaced it with a brand new one. Maybe it was a blessing ;) LOL. There's nothing like seeing your prized contents in CLEAR view!

Good for you and I am excited to see some progress on it!

Yea, it was probably etched. I've had similar problems when i was trying to clean the glass tops on my used tank. I tried vinegar, clr, rubbing compound, razors, bar keepers friend. Nothing worked, it just stayed all hazy.
