Our resident Harlequin shrimp has been in our 300g reef for several months and has put a large dent in the asterina starfish population on the left side of our tank. I was cleaning the glass this evening and grabbed 5 or 6 medium sized asterinas from the right side of the tank and started dropping them in the Harlequin's territory on the left. I could tell he was watching what I was doing, so I moved my hand a little closer to him and dropped one within a couple of inches of where he was sitting. He didn't seem bothered by me, so I held the last starfish between my thumb and index finger and held it out to him. To my SURPRISE, he climbed up on my fingers and took it from me.
Very cool! My skunk cleaners and yellow coral bandit will take food from my hands, but I never expected the Harlequin to do it. I'm going to have to capture that on video!
