Harlequin tusk. Australian or Indonesian?

Hard to tell when smaller, I'm leaning Australian. Aussies have more black towards the tail.

@Joeganja a bit hard to tell for me but, is the tail all white without any color on the old side edges?

The IO tusk in the photo is a juvenile. From what I've read so far, their coloration will change a bit as they mature causing them to lose the false eyes. from what I've read it seems that the red in the tail is the primary way to tell if it's Aussie or IO.

I've got the same question with mine, it's a juvie and I'm still waiting for the colors to change.

Thats hard to say? Mine looks like yours, dark near the tail. I just took a close look at mine and I see some faint red forming on its tail. I bought mine small 2 in. At the fish store they had 3 aussi adults and this small one, so I took a chance for 51$,that it to was an aussi to.

After looking at fresh pics again I would be willing to bet it's an Aussie.

When I first got him the tail had a glimpse of red

My pet store isn't the best place to buy fish to be honest. They had just gotten it in and they said if they put it in their tanks it's gonna be $80 and if they don't and I just buy it from the bag they had just gotten their shipment in it would be $60

I just got a older juvenile tusk. Still has the spots. I read that you can't really tell the difference as juveniles because the color comes out later.

Also, I'm not sure if there is a difference. All fish look different, so maybe one with good color is called an Aussie and a muted color is called an Indian. For all we know, the may have been caught in the same place.
