Harlequin tusk wrasse

His blacks look pretty black and his blues pretty blue...so I’d say Aussie. My favorite fish!

Looks like a small one. Can't really tell til he matures

Does it really matter, he's gorgeous. I had a indie that rivaled any aussie you would have ever seen. Look on a map, the same fish swimming in the indo one day, and off the coast of Australia the next. The price tag is really just paying the differences in cost associated with landing and shipping from Indonesia vs Australia. I think for the most part, they are the same fish, I've seen brilliant indos and plain jane aussies and vice versa, and have busted my share of lfs ripping off customers charging aussie prices for indo fish.

Thanks everyone I agree got for a great price
$79 I think Aussie the price is the only reason I am asking
Maybe I just got a great deal

He need to grow up a bit before you can tell. Colors depends on healthy a lot. Healthy mature Australian HT will look better than the counterpart in Pacific given the same size and health.

This exactly

I was always told that once they hit about 5 inch mark if the spot on the tail is still there they are indo.

The spot will disappear at the same size. Australia are redder, bluer and less black. More vivid colors. Health have a lot to do with vividness of color also. Pacific HT are beautiful but Australia HT just a bit more beautiful.

According to Kuiter the only differences between the 2 types of Herlequin tusks is the width of the posterior bands. Japanese/Philippine specimens' posterior bands are of comparable width to the anterior bands, the Australian population's posterior bands are much thinner than the anterior bands.

Both populations can have blue teeth.

I have never seen any distinguishable difference other than the price. Comparing 100 to 100.

I have an aussie and looks identical

I am sorry but my Australian HT coloration is much more vivid.

Lighting will have effect on appearance of specimen

I have keep several of both. The easiest way to tell I’d the pelvic fins of the Australian is completely red when they get to about 4 inches or so. All the Pacific Australian HT l had in the past did not have all red pelvic fins.
