Our [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Weimaraner is fascinated by the tank. She especially likes the emerald crab we named Kilowog.
Whenever she enters the room her first stop is at the tank

That is so cute!! Thanks for sharing!!!

FWIW ... Emerald crabs are omnivores and will eat algae and detritus but if they do not find enough food they may decide to consume other life forms in the tank, so keep it well fed so it does not turn on you and eat Zoas or other corals.

That's great!

Oh yes I am aware...sadly. In a past tank I had my emerald decided my clam was to be a midnight snack. By morning I was sad and he was on his way to a new home.
I have a nice bit of macro algae in there, as well as I tend to feed generously (but only every other day usually), so am hoping...hoping he'll behave.
They have SO much personality and have always been a favorite of mine. I'm a sucker for a good 'clown' as it were.
Thanks for the warning though

Yes that is what they do unfortunately and one can never figure out why or when it may happen so I personally never use them, just like I do not use Hermit crabs either as thyy can turn on you too and decide that your corals are more to their liking than algae and detritus and all the rest they should eat ... glad you are aware of it.

Hermits will do the same at some point especially after they have been in the tank for a few months IME.
