I just harvested about 1/3 of a 5 gallon bucket out of my refugium and there were hundreds of copepods in the 1/2" of water in the bottom of the bucket and who knows how many in the chaeto itself. Do you try to recover them? How would you go about it?

As usual hundreds of short pieces of chaeto got pumped in to the DT. I sat down and watched to see how the fish reacted. To my surprise my purple tang went wild eating the small pieces of chaeto. I didn't think it was very palatable to tangs but he sure seemed to like it. The wrasses also had a feeding frenzy on the pods released and I also saw a couple of them eat pieces of chaeto, which was kind of weird. Do any of your fish eat chaeto?

My old Foxface loved the stuff, as well as my current Melanurus. And yes, I always throw the pods back in to the fuge when harvesting.

I rinse it into a bucket with about a gallon of new saltwater and dump the water back in the tank. Everything that’s left goes in the wife’s compost pile.
