Hello All,

At the beginning of this whole stay at home ordeal (March 5th for me) I decided I would try to see if I could grow more pods for my mandarin dragonet without having to buy anything. I looked around online and found a couple very simple setups. My goal was to be minimal maintenance.

I began my setup and looking at my bucket today I have thousands of pods. I can't believe how many their are, now I am worried about being able to collect them all! I never thought this would work, let alone work this well.

Has anyone had experience harvesting massive amounts of pods and then being able to get them into their tank? I am not sure if I can over populate my tank with pods or not. I assume no, but wanted to hear from fellow reefers!

My setup is as follows:

2 5 gallon buckets stacked up (this creates a pocket of air in between the buckets that better insulates and keeps temps more stable)
The black material is carbon from a carbon filter that had been in my display for three months it seems to be a great hiding place for all the pods
1 old heater set to 78 degrees F
2 old air stones connected to a single aerator on very low setting (couple bubbles per second)
1 50 watt CFL lightbulb in a basic clamp on fixture hooked up to mechanical timer for 12 hours on a day
1 cheap digital thermometer just to see if the temp is stable

Here is a picture of what my setup is, this is directly under my tank.

Agree w/the above poster....you can't too many reef bugs. All kinds of fish eat them, including wrasses and dragonets. Anthias will go nuts on them too if they're in the water column. The more the merrier...they'll be your invisible clean up crew at night and your constant food source for fish and corals 24/7, go nuts, you can't hurt anything.
