Has anyone brought corals from Canda into the USA

We’re planning a trip to Canada for this summer. I noticed that some fish stores there have corals that aren’t as common in the United States. I was wondering if anyone knows if corals can be brought back into the United States for personal and not business use. Would most likely be buying some soft corals. And also would there be any paperwork needed to be done? Would be driving across the border. Thanks

I believe internationally … a cites permit is required .
It would be the same as if I wanted to buy corals while I was in the USA and bring them home .

some species are allowed but if customs can’t identify them properly they will hold them . Or refuse them from crossing .
Not even worth the hassle

Are you flying or driving? It think it would be easier to manage by driving. I was planning a drive across the border myself this summer. I wouldnt bring home a car load full of contraband fishes, but if I have 2-3-4 items, i wouldnt say "hey I bought these corals". I dont think it would be a big deal. Very worst case scenario, the items would be confiscated.

But thats thinking ahead. Of course, first, I would take the time to call border services and ask, I suggest you do the same.

I’ve thought of this exact scenario .
The worse case scenario would be landing on crow bar motel for trying to smuggle contraband into the country .
How far south would we have to drive from
The border to get decent corals ?

It isn't legal to ship coral over international lines. You need cites permits to do this, which no hobbyist has

You would have to look into soft corals. There may be exemptions on any coral with out a skeletal structure that you could take across the border, but don't quote me on that
