Wondering if anyone has done a rebuild on a mp40 dry side. Mine is making a kind of grinding sound like the bearings are going bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I rebuilt an MP10.....same as MP40, but smaller bearings. The biggest issue is picking the "right" bearings....and I'm not talking about the size...that's easy. I'm talking the brand and ABEC rating and whether you pick steel or ceramic. You'll see success stories with the cheapest bearing from eBay and the most expensive ceramic bearings....but you'll conversely see stories of these same bearing still causing noise. Frustrating.

I also assume the dry-side is out of waranty. If not, simply send it back to Ecotech.

I'm going to send you a PM because I documented this on another site since my rebuild was post R2R. The hardest thing is cutting into the plastic cover as you think about how much you paid for this thing. Once you've done that, it's smooth sailing.....just be careful with the magnet. Bottom line, it's going to cost around $20 to get that thing running quiet again.

Perfect I'll look for the pm!!!

I put new bearings into my mp40s and don't remember cutting any plastic cover?

In THIS video where he says pry off the front cover.....well I had to cut my cover off. Not sure if it was just mine with an excess about of glue.

The other thing that wasn't like in the video was using a builder's square to pop off the bearings. Well my building square didn't even come close to fitting between the bearing and the magnet. Now maybe this guys building square was real thin metal....mine is pretty thick.

Now maybe it's me, but after upgrading the site, I couldn't find how to send a PM. However, I'm hoping the "Start a Conversation" does the same thing. I put all info in "Start a Conversation" with you.....did you get it?
