Has anyone else seen this on ecotech pumps

I would contact ecotech their customer service is very good

I sent them an email this morning. Going to wait for a reply. Haven’t had a good experience with their customer service in the past.

I am well into stocking of my new tank, no corals yet, and have been debating between the maxspec gyres or the vortech power heads. I like that the vortechs can be controlled through my apex wxm, but as the gyres have their own control panel, I don't really need to control wave/flow output wirelessly. The gyre can still be controlled on/off via apex during feed or maintenance cycles. After reading this thread, think I am going to go with the gyres!

When the vortechs are working properly they are great. I like them for the wider flow patterns and other features but the build quality is not superior to most other power heads.
I hear you on the gyres, they would be my second choice after the Tunzes. At some point I plan on replacing my vortechs with Tunzes.

I got to believe something has happened with Ecotech manufacturing or parts sourcing.

You used to never hear of issues with them. I have MP40s that are like 3 models old and other than a power supply they worked great.

The only issue is they had a design flaw that wore the bearings out.

Quality wont get better if people keep buying.

Quality on equipment you can not afford to have fail is happening allot more and more.

Quality is slipping trying to keep up with the low end companies.
That never works, Stay high end and make quality equipment.

Even the Radions seem to be having issues now.

I just had a power supply go 2 months out of warranty. The power supply on my old pump was at least branded ecotech but this one is "Golden Profit". I'm sure ecotech made a golden profit on this pump

I'm slowly moving away from ecotech but my other choice AI is owned by ecotech so I'm going to have to do some thinking.

EcoTech replied back. I will be sending the defective wetside in for replacement.
I’m going to sell my vortechs once this is taken care of. I’ve had to replace too many parts for the price of these things.

I agree with saveafish. I haven’t had problems with Tunze like I’ve had with EcoTech.
Tunzes also have a 2 year warranty and IME, good customer service as well.

Unfortunately, this is common on Ecotech powerheads. I had a wet side on an MP40 rust and break open. I've seen many reports of this, and have a friend who's had 2 MP60s that are less than a year old do this recently. If under warranty, Ecotech will replace the wet side at no charge, but unless they've made some changes to their manufacturing, I won't use them anymore because of this.

Yes, my wetside, about 8months old, the thrust washer has cracks all around it. Vortech say not covered in the warranty as it is part of the impeller.
