has anyone ever used a power or cannister filter in their sump or to clean out the sump or just simply "polish" the water? i know it seems a little redundant and plain weird, but in some instances i don't see it being a big deal. other instances i see it as useless.

edit: ok so i came up with idea as a way to mechanically filter a sump that has just a sock. no protein skimmer. this is for a brackish sump. Hell even a reactor with just filter floss in it.

I used to use one on the sump for a 125.
Sometimes it was to polish and other times it was to vacuum.

did it work well? i mean its only a 40g breeder so I figured something small would work well and just change the floss weekly.

Worked great but a bit messy each time I used it . Old style, so it was a bear to get the siphon to work

just for the record i wouldnt be going out and spending all sorts of money on this idea. I just looked at my sump again and maybe even just a small internal filter. Just something to polish the water.
