In my tanks whenever I add a frag rack or when I set up a frag tank and use an egg crate rack, I almost always get what appears to be dinos on the racks. They always go away though. Does this happen to anyone else?

Both have new tanks (and sometimes also new owners) in common. :)

No scientific evidence but I have seen this quite a few times over the years.
Egg crate is widely used in a vast numbers of frag tanks with no issues so it makes me wonder weather it's the brand or maker of the egg crate or a perfect storm has to be present to set the dino up.

Someone chalked it up to polystyrene once...

I still chalk it up to being a new tank. :)

But the dinos only show up on the frag racks and even in an established tank.

Try to find acrylic or PVS or ....something non-polystyrene then. You can probably find the old thread with a little googling....not TOO MANY reef conversations that bring up polystyrene. ;)

lol...thank you for the direction :)

It's not a product specifically designed for what we are using it for, so id imagine the manufactures are not selecting materials not to grow algae or even food grade a stuff. Another example are those pvc are grow tubs. I was looking to use one as frag tank and found allot of posts how they grow algae like mad, because of the material.
