I wonder if someone had a bare bottom tank with a chrome underlayment under the tank to reflect light back up underneath Sps corals if they would color and grow more? Just a thought, maybe it is a stupid idea, Lol.

I would consider painting it white instead ..although cleaning the coralline on the base will make for a fair bit more maintenance. But the theory is sound, it will reflect light back up to the underside of corals

Sounds like a good way to bleach your corals.

Also, depending on your lighting, you might produce to much heat for your tank, then you’d have to buy a chiller.

overall, I would love to know if anyone has done this!

Also, here’s another theory why I think it won’t work.

On a sunny day when it’s about 80 out, if you have a window that reflects the sun down to your grass in a specific spot for to long, it’ll kill your grass.

Ive seen siding on houses melt that way too. Think it got a little hotter on that though.

How would the fish react to their reflection?

Fish wouldn’t like the reflection I would think .. the reflection created from your lights would be awful to look at too

I know light deflectors have been used to reflect light into the tank. Same principle just reflecting the light to the underside of corals. Thats mostly what lighting companies are trying to create, more even spread. Just a thought!
