I have a Triton style sump from Synergy but I'd like to incorporate a sock to the drain... This seems like the most straight forward without having to build a sock stand or modify the sump in some manner. Figured I could just hang it from a hook or zip tie etc...

Any thoughts??

What about a hang on sock holder?

This isn't a great picture but you can see there's a ~.5" lip that goes all the way around the drain chamber... I don't think hang-on would be an option.

Might be able to see clearer on the product page: https://synergyreef.com/product/synergy-reef-ts-26-triton-method-sumps-refugium-sump/

Long story short, I inherited this sump, and while I DO want to run a fuge I think I'd also like some sort of mechanical filtration. Unless that's not needed...

If you need mechanical filtration will be based on how your tank is responding to your current filtration. I run filter socks because i replaced my fuge with a in sump calcium reactor, and reduces the need to clean my sump. With the fuge i didnt care if particles fell out in that compartment.

Hmm, you're probably right. I need to see how it reacts to the way it's set up now. I did add an eshopp's sponge between the skimmer compartment and fuge compartment. Largely to catch little bits of chaeto before it gets shot into the display... maybe that's enough.
