I bought this today from my LFS because they were out of "the incomparable poly filter" pads.

Is this comparable to "the incomparable" ??
I could not find many reviews.

No, it looks like that just absorbs nitrate and phosphate. Poly filter will absorb heavy metals etc

Its a sponge and similar to poly-filter but specific as poly is wide range

If anyone has used it or knows about it, I'd like to know what they think.
I've never heard of it until today, and i typically don't put random stuff in my filter with reading up on it or finding out about it.

@Key-tie, how is this pad working for you so far? i'm curious because i'm looking to buy this same product for my QT when applying copper (and hence, hopefully minimize water changes).

i did come across a couple of amazon reviews commenting that the pad sheds lots of fibers so it needs a really good initial rinsing.

I have cut mine to fit, and it only seems to shed fibers from the cut side (which i now leave up and out of the water...lol)
I rinsed it normally with distilled water, nothing excessive in the rinse, and i notice minimal to zero fiber shedding.
I didnt know anything about this product, I had never seen it before I bought some (because my lfs was out of polyfilter)
There wasn't much to research about it that i found, and didnt get many replies here, so when it was time to change my poly...i held my breath and tried it.
It seems to work really well at this point.
I've had it in for about 2 days.
Within a half hour I noticed all my corals were open and looking very happy, all polyped out...lol.
It is stiffer than polyfiber and only about half the thickness, bit you get alot for the money.
It was 2...18×10 pads included for slightly under $20.
So far I'd have to say it works really well from what I've observed.
It is specifically phosphate & nitrate removing, so if removing copper-based meds, probably a combination of polyfilter and this would clear the meds and make the water very nice.

thank you for the update. i’ve been looking to use something like this during copper treatment so i can avoid water changes and not mess with the copper concentration. :)

Ooohh gotcha !
Lol
Should work just fine for that.
Hope it does the job for you.

FWIW, I do not believe any such pad can directly reduce nitrate or phosphate from seawater. Those chemicals are just too hard to bind with a simple polymer from seawater.

Pads imbedded with GFO or other minerals can bind phosphate (like Chemi Pure Elite), but not nitrate.

Most polymer materials, such as Purigen, can bind organics, and you may be able to see some reduction in nitrate and phosphate over time by exporting organics before they decompose in the tank.

But don't be misled by claims based on freshwater systems extrapolated to seawater.

So, so untrue. Sadly.

According to my Hanna low range phosphate tester...in 3 days...phosphate levels went from .2 to .06

Normal phosphate level in the ocean is .06-.07

I dont disagree with your readings, however,it does not seem possible unless your tank is very small.
Average ocean phosphate is .005 ppm.

Well I am certainly not a chemist...lol.
I can only go by how my tank and corals look and what my testers tell me.
Im sure i will use polyfilter when they have it again at my lfs, but this seems to be at least a solid product so far.
And i have no interest or affiliation to the product, just something i tried because they were out of what i wanted.

And you don’t use any other phosphate removing stuff?
Typically only polyfilter.
The actual polyfilter that removes contaminant, not the regular filter floss.
I try not to overfeed, and i have limited fish, and many more inverts/clean up crew than fish.

I imagine i have a very light load on my tank compared to a lot of people on this site...lol
So that helps...
But I still battle cyano and algae just like everyone else.
They were some of the first organisms on Earth, they will always be around and lurking

And I do use a high grade carbon that claims it has no phosphates.
Also, I feed with Hikari bio pure.
The mega marine frozen.
They claim highly purified also.
And I still get the cyano phases just like everyone...lol.

That is not true in surface seawater or on coral reefs, where it is often far lower.

The value you quote would imply pollution (eutrophication). Note that 0.1-0.2 uM mentioned below is 10 to 20 ug/L, or 0.01 to 0.02 ppm phosphate.

Eutrophication and coral reefs—some examples in the Great Barrier Reef lagoon

"The concentrations of nutrients N and P associated with the onset eutrophication in coral reef communities are less well defined (annual mean DIN ∼ 1 μM; P-PO4 ∼ 0.1–0.2 μM) but are in accord with eutrophication threshold levels for sensitive freshwater ecosystems."
